Historic market square with buildings from the 12th century.
The inn "Zum Adler" is one of the oldest buildings in town. The facade painting was created in the course of the renovation after existing remains from the Renaissance period.
Also worth seeing is the pink building, today's building authority.
The Martinssäule is a work by the sculptor Jürgen Goertz from 1984 and relates to the Martins theme - the contrast between rich and poor.

The city of Engen was awarded a special prize in the state competition "Building and Living in Old Environment" in 1983 for the entire market square renovation.

The market square was probably created from the remains of a castle that was moved to Hohenhewen before the town was founded.
The Martinsbrunnen is from 1984 and is meant to represent a lot of things (see information board on site).
The former Adler inn is probably from the Austrian rule.
At least twice everything here burned down and was rebuilt. In the 20th century the entire old town was renovated for around 20 years. The result is impressive. And it is not a "museum", people live here, there are shops and places to stop for a bite to eat. I saw no hectic activity here, but a cozy bustle on a Tuesday morning.
History, culture, art and enjoyment await you here.
