The viewing platform with a view over Lake Nierssee was inaugurated in June 2019. Here you also have a view of the approximately 7,100 m² large, wooded island. The lake is fenced and inaccessible for "security reasons".

The lake now serves as a decay basin or fining pond for the neighboring Mönchengladbach-Neuwerk sewage treatment plant. The water clarified there is treated in the lake and enriched with oxygen. It also serves as flood protection by holding back floodwaters from the Niers and releasing them there again at a reduced rate.
