The Castle of Montechiaro, together with the disappeared castle of Rivergaro, that of Rivalta and that of Statto, constituted the defensive quadrilateral on the "path" that led from Piacenza to Genoa. The oldest part seems to date back to the 11th century. Today it is a private property.
