The Neckar is a tributary of the Rhine in Germany of 362 km in length - with the longer upper reaches Eschach even of 380 km - which drains with its approximately 14,000 km ² large catchment area the central part of Baden-Wuerttemberg. At its mouth flow on average 145 m³ / s. Hydrologically, the Neckar is thus after Aare, Maas, Moselle and Main, the fifth largest tributary of the Rhine and after length as well as after water supply, the twelfth largest river in Germany.
