The Reichenbach Limestone Mountains are an area with diverse landscape structure and vegetation, as well as protected biotopes in the Werra-Meißner district of northern Hesse. Their conservation importance is primarily due to the near-natural limestone beech forests and calcareous grasslands, which have become habitats for rare and endangered plant and animal species. Due to their biodiversity, the Limestone Mountains have been declared a nature reserve and Natura 2000 site. Within the protected area, a natural forest reserve has been established in the area of the Reichenbach ruins.
