There is a large boulder in the stream bed of the Gregnitz. A hole about 15 cm deep and 10 cm in diameter is carved into this granite stone. According to tradition, this stone was used by the Venetians in the Middle Ages to pan for gold. Gold-bearing boulders were placed in the circular depression and pounded. The sand was washed out by the water while the gold grains remained at the bottom.

The hiking trail through the Gregnitz valley leads past a rock in the stream bed with two circular depressions of different sizes; these are the legendary gold washers' stones, the so-called Venedigerschüsseln (Venetian bowls). The Venediger (Venetians) are said to have washed gold there. The gold-bearing stones were placed in the larger depression, crushed there, and the sand grains then washed out with Gregnitz water. The gold remained in the granite hollow. In reality, the depressions are hollows in the granite created by erosion, as science has determined. They are pseudo-whirlpools created by the eroding flowing water.
