The foundations used on the Geest were found as building material, mostly granite, which had brought the glaciers of the Ice Age here.
The stones were probably pulled by oxen harnesses or by muscle power over tree trunks to the designated grave sites possible on frozen ground - and fitted together accurately. In this way, a megalithic grave was built within a few months.
