The name Jammerhalde does not bode well. On a metal tablet, which is attached to a boulder, it is said that on July 17, 1635 at the "Croatian storm" over 1 500 citizens have been massacred. The people then fled to the surrounding forests. This is officially not proven. What is certain is that on this day 3 500 citizens lived in the city. After this battle there were only 200 people left. 150 years it takes until the population is reached again.

The memorial stone in the Kaiserslautern Forest near the Dansenberg district commemorates a particularly sad event in the history of the Barbarossa city. As in many regions of Germany, the devastating Thirty Years' War also left its mark in the West Palatinate.
