The house is the oldest building in Ravenstein, dating from the 14th century. It functioned as the first home for the lord of Ravenstein when the castle was built. The gate was part of the first fortifications from the early 16th century. The gate and the house were enlarged in the 18th century. This can be seen from the different types of stone in the gate and the dark tiles on the roof. Reverend Stephanus Hanewinkel lived in this house in the first half of the 19th century.
