Beacon trees are trees (poplar and ash) that grow on the banks along the river and mark the boundary between land and water. They stand in a row with a distance of about one hundred meters between them and mainly occur along the diked part of the Meuse. They were planted in the 1930s, near the canalization of the Meuse, as beacons to guide shipping traffic.
