The first Løkken Redningshus (English rescue house) in Løkken was built in 1852. The Danish rescue service was officially founded in 1851. Løkken, along with Skagen, Kandestederne and Sønder Lyngvig, was one of the first places to receive a rescue station.

The red brick house with the rescue service's emblem on the gate was home to the motor rescue boat MRB18, which was then relocated to Thorup, until 1975. That year, the Løkken rescue station was closed.

The Danish authority Farvandsdirektoratet then started negotiations with the Løkken-Vrå municipality about a possible relocation of the station. At that time, the house was in very poor condition. The negotiations ended with the municipality being able to take over the building free of charge in 1978, provided that it carried out the renovation itself.

Another condition was that the building was to be used only for public purposes. The old rescue station was therefore equipped with public toilets and an ice cream parlor. The gates were allowed to be decorated with the Dannebrog flag, even though it was no longer a service building.

The Løkken Museumsforening was given permission to use part of the building as exhibition rooms. The Løkken Sportsdykkerklub (Sport Diving Club) was given a room for its equipment.

In 1988 the ice cream kiosk was moved to the beach and the diving club also occupied the ground floor.

In 1992 the entire rescue station was transferred to the museum. Before that, the museum had acquired the coastal fishing boat Bent II, which became the main attraction of the museum's new coastal fishing exhibition.

For years there have been problems with the eroded sand, which almost destroyed the house in 1978. These problems continued over the next decades. The sea eroded more and more of the coast. During the storm Egon on January 10, 2015, the old rescue station suffered enormous damage.

In 2016 extensive security measures were taken.

Every larger town has a house like this with an -i. d. Usually very old boats are used to rescue people who have had accidents at sea. It's worth taking a look through the windows!

Thanks to JR56 for adding his history to this highlight. It wasn't a museum when I last visited. Now I have another reason to repeat my traditional MTB tour from Lønstrup to Løkken along the beach [komoot.com/de-de/tour/528803866?share_token=arMyr2Q3UnfDe2GFXzs4tJjAw6CF70kDUPxLK1QB4DG2rHNlOq&ref=wtd] to take a look inside the house....
