As the old bathhouse had to make place for the construction of the quais promenades that were built between 1881 and 1887, the then independent municipality of Riesbach built two new bathing facilities Strandbad Tiefenbrunnen (1886) and Seebad Utoquai (1890).

Seebad Utoquai was implemented as a bathing palace in stilts with delicate, tower-like structures in the Moorish style. For the first time in Zürich, it was allowed for men and women to bath in the same bath. In 1942, wooden sun terraces were added.
