Constructed in 1965 as part of refurbishments to the Dejima garden, this bridge and trellis were designed after those appearing in an illustration of Dejima around the time of the great fire in
1798. The illustration shows a bridge over a pond with water to irrigate the adjacent vegetable patch and a grape trellis for shade. Illustrations by Kawahara Keiga and other later artists do not show either the bridge or the trellis.
