The places Gruna and Hohenprießnitz have been connected by a ferry since 1806, which used to be a so-called wagon ferry, which could also be used to cross over cars. Furthermore, there was also a wooden barge, which was driven by means of a paddle or a pole. Before 1806 there was a bridge going back to the Middle Ages. In the 20th century, the ferry was mostly used by the working population. This was and is the shortest connection between Hohenprießnitz and Gruna. The shortest way over the next Muldenbrücke in Bad Düben means a distance of 17km. It is the only passenger ferry across the Mulde in northern Saxony.
