The ruins remain in Peenemünde
the military past being reclaimed by nature. The 25 km² area of Peenemünde contains a large number of land and architectural monuments from the 17th to the 20th century. The focus is on the ruins of the Peenemünde research institutes, which today can be regarded as one of the largest area monuments in the Federal Republic of Germany. However, large parts of the area are still considered to be contaminated with ammunition and are not accessible to the public.
The “monument landscape” is a circular route
25 km long with currently 23 stations. While leaving out sensitive areas, visitors are guided to the most historically interesting points. At each station there is a sign with further information. Starting from the Historical-Technical Museum Peenemünde, the individual tour also enables the visitor to experience the ecological and symbolic value of this landscape, because it invites you to reflect on the relationship between man, nature and technology.
