The many old trees that accompany the Bilsbek and the numerous drainage ditches or stand on the grassland areas, individually or in groups, are characteristic of the Bilsbegned. Alder, oak and willow are common. The numerous old pollard willows in particular have caves, broken branches, crevices and a rustic growth. The Bilsbenedung is also of great importance as a habitat for a species-rich breeding bird community. Skylarks, meadow pipits, red-backed shrikes and stonechats can be found here. The curlew also bred here until 2001.
