Bäcker-Gang No. 43

The houses of the Bäckergang are located on what was once a swampy Trave valley. It is located next to the entrance to the house of Engelsgrube No. 41. It is a low passageway through which you can only walk slightly bent with your head bowed. If you have gone through there you will find an old, gray "booth" on the right. The roof, which slopes down towards the corridor, is covered by formerly red tiles. The floor is covered with red plaster with small flower beds in front of the windows. The white wooden windows with many struts and usually two wings make the picture complete. The building now houses three apartments in which small families live.The property in which the bakery ends was first considered in 1306 and named "Rovereshagen" after the buyer Johannes Rover until the 15th century. After the corridor became dilapidated in 1558, it became the property of the city. The mayor Claus Bardewig bequeathed two houses and a corridor with twelve stalls to Christoffer Toden in 1560. Divided in 1572 and reunited in 1596 by Jost Capelen. The corridor was called "Capellen Gang" until the 17th century and in 1956 was a corridor with twelve habitable houses. Since six of them were at risk of collapse, these houses were renovated in 1983-86.
