The NZW 16 "Meersiepenkopf" is located here.2 km to the south is the NWZ 15 "Steinsieperhöh".The result of the experiment: without intervention, beeches prevail over oaks. The stupid thing about this is that in years of drought, beeches die more quickly.

"In 1971, the North Rhine-Westphalia Forestry Administration began identifying natural forest cells in the state's own forest. There is now a network of 75 natural forest cells in North Rhine-Westphalia in which the self-controlled processes of our forests are researched. These cells reflect the entire spectrum of forest types and growth areas in North Rhine-Westphalia with their different rocks, soils and climatic conditions.Since its founding, the importance of the NWZ has continued to increase:+ protect: Together with the Eifel National Park Forestry Office and the wilderness development areas, the natural forest cells now form a network of forests with natural development in North Rhine-Westphalia.
+ research: The natural forest cells help us to better understand the natural dynamics of forest ecosystems and to work more closely to nature (with the forces of nature) in management.
+ learn: Natural forest research has set out to further develop natural silviculture by observing undisturbed forest development. Today she supports us in integrating nature conservation goals into management. The natural forest cells also help us to better understand the threats posed by climate change to our forests."
