Porta de la Mar in Valencia is somewhat reminiscent of the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin and the Arc de Triomphe in Paris. In the middle of the roundabout, at the end of the gardens of la Glorieta, stands this beautiful monument that you should not miss during your city trip to Valencia. Originally, this was the old city gate Puerta del Real, the gateway that connected the city and the port. The arch protected the inhabitants from attacks and the memorial stands there in memory of the Spanish Civil War. The gate consists of three arches and above the lateral spans are four reliefs, made by the sculptor Vicente Navarro Romero. A very admirable piece of architecture!
