The burial mounds in this part of Kampsheide are part of a much larger prehistoric burial field that extends further to the southwest. As early as 1833, at the request of C.J.C. Reuvens, the first professor of archeology in the world, recorded the size of this cemetery in a drawing. The mounds seen here are most likely burial monuments from the Iron Age, between 800 BC. and the beginning of the common era.
