The Pforzheimer Hütte on Lake Pforzheim is beautifully situated and is a good example of the eventful history up here.
August 25, 2024
The Pforzheimer Hütte has a rather eventful past and was listed as an "interesting example of alpine metallurgy around 1900" in 2009.
The hut was built in 1901 by the Pforzheim section of the DAV. After the First World War, South Tyrol and thus the Pforzheimer Hütte fell to the Kingdom of Italy in 1919. The Italian tax authorities use the hut as a base to stop the heavy smuggling and poaching. In 1964 the building burned down and was left to decay.
Since it was not to be expected that the Italian state would give up the hut, the SAV built the Sesvena refuge in the immediate vicinity between 1979 and 1981. In 1998 the "state property" was transferred to the state of South Tyrol; Since then, the Cunfin Association has been committed to the repair and maintenance of the hut. The hut has served as a museum since 2015.
