A few kilometers from Ullapool appears this tranquil loch, surrounded by mountains and quite far from the coastal bustle.
But it has a curiosity: it hasn't always been this size. In the 70s, a dam was built and the old Loch Achall was integrated into a much larger reservoir to supply Ullapool with water.
Today it's hard to imagine. The landscape looks completely natural, with small beaches, vegetation, and the mountains reflecting in the water. A good detour if you're looking for a quiet spot that is much less frequented than the large lochs on the route.
