The ‘Candi Sukuh’ temple sits at 910 m above sea level on the forested slopes of Gunung Lawu, a dormant volcano. The temple is stylistically different than any other in Indonesia. Candi Sukuh was possibly built in the 15th century. Built towards the end of the Hindu Majapahit Empire (1293–1527). The temple complex features three terraces, a remarkable pyramid and numerous enigmatic sculptures.
