The original Rabenau Castle was built in the middle of the 13th century after the people of Nordeck left Nordeck Castle. In the late Middle Ages the complex was divided into upper, middle and lower castles.Source:

The name is a bit misleading. These are not castles but rather 3 horse ridings.
The most beautiful of these is the "Mittelburg", a closed courtyard complex that consists of a main building on the gable, a gate building on the left and several outbuildings. On the south side you can see a medieval section of wall, the stone consoles of which indicate a battlement.
An important detail of the building is the inscription "ANNO DNI 1555" on the back in a wooden lintel, which can be considered the date of construction of the Riding Court in its current form.
The upper and lower castles are newer ridings that we didn't like that much. Between the middle castle and the lower castle there is another beautiful half-timbered house - the forester's house.
