The Jachmann Bridge is a bridge named after Vice Admiral Eduard von Jachmann (1822-1887) over the harbor canal, which connects the construction port of the naval arsenal with the rest of the port. The forerunner of the current bridge was built in 1888-1890 under the name Jachmann Bridge in place of an earlier ship bridge. However, the 85.4 m long and 7.40 m wide swing bridge was dismantled after the Second World War and replaced by a dam made of rubble. As part of the reconstruction of the naval arsenal, the Jachmann Dam was reopened in 1960 and replaced, initially by a pontoon bridge, and later by today's bascule bridge, which was built between 1976 and 1978. The 680 m long bridge rises relatively steeply on the south side, first bridges the railway tracks of the south route, then crosses the harbor canal with a double bascule bridge and runs elevated on the north side over parts of the Arsenal site before merging into the Friesendamm. The length of the double bascule bridge that can be opened is 67 m. The total cost of the bridge system was 15.1 million DM. The bridge allows a very beautiful view of the naval arsenal and the ships that are lying in the naval arsenal's construction port.
