This old large double-wing swing bridge is always worthwhile, as it is very beautiful and still in operation. In shipping, it is opened. From here you have a good view over the harbor to the Banter lake and also to the museum ships of the Maritime Museum.

The symbol of the city of Wilhelmshaven stands on iron feet: The Kaiser Wilhelm Bridge on the Great Harbor was completed in 1907 and was then Europe's largest swing bridge. Nearly eight hundred tons of steel connect the city of Wilhelmshaven with the south beach and open ships with high masts the gate in the harbor.
On a length of 159 m you can cross on foot, by car or bicycle the harbor entrance dry feet. Its height makes the Kaiser Wilhelm Bridge a popular viewing platform. Whenever ships with tall masts enter the harbor, the bridge diverges, allowing large ships to pass through. Pedestrians, cyclists and cars like to wait at the barrier in this impressive spectacle until the bridge is passable again.
After two years of renovation, the Kaiser Wilhelm Bridge has been reopened to pedestrians and cyclists since the end of September 2012. With 50,000 new steel rivets, modern LED lighting and fresh paint, Wilhelmshaven's historic and listed landmark is once again presented as a real gem in the Grand Harbor.
