The Schondelle is a 5.2 km long stream in Dortmund that rises in Wellinghofen and flows into the Emscher near Brünninghausen. After renaturation by the Emschergenossenschaft and the city of Dortmund, the Schondelle stream was separated from the dirty water and a new canal was laid under the B 54. During the construction work, historical remains of the walls of Brünninghausen Castle were discovered, which were included in the redesign. The work was completed in April 2014, allowing the stream to drain a catchment area of 11,793 km² and overcome a height difference of 49 m.
