Monument in honor of Franz Krawutschke (* 1862 in Berlin, † 1940 in Düren).
From 1877 Krawutschke began to explore the Eifel from Düren and mark hiking trails.
The outlook tower Krawutschketurm, inaugurated on the Burgberg near Bergstein in 1934, and the Krawutschke-Weg, which runs along the Burgberg, were named after him. In 1939 he was appointed the first "honorary hiking attendant" by the Eifel Association.

A real Berliner moves to Düren in 1877 to open up the Eifel for hikers. Almost the same as icke. 😂

When hiking pioneer Franz Krawutschke moved from Potsdam to Düren at a young age to do a commercial apprenticeship, he was hooked. He fell irrevocably in love with the Eifel landscape with its unique valleys. From then on, he devoted every free minute to experiencing nature and made it his goal to bring the beauty of the Eifel to as many people as possible. As a member of the Eifel Association, which was founded in 1888, Krawutschke was very committed and spent many years developing the Eifel's network of hiking trails. Among other things, he took care of the signage for the extensive hiking trails, as well as the appropriate maps. Source: rureifel-tourismus.de/wandern/wanderland-rureifel/a-krawutschke-weg
