Tips

  • The school was founded in 1785 as the Latin school of the Bocholt Minorite monastery and was called the “Gymnasium zu Buchold” before it was closed in 1811 under the French government through secularization. In 1825, the Catholic priest August van der Meulen, a friend of Clemens Brentano, founded a private Latin school, which was elevated to a municipal school in 1828. In 1903 it became a full high school.

  • PositionThe St.-Georg-Gymnasium with its main building and the cafeteria building on Benölkenplatz forms the central school center together with the vocational college at the Wasserturm and the Albert-Schweitzer-Realschule. In addition to Benölkenplatz as a break area for the middle school, the school grounds also include large parts of the adjacent Langenberg Park, which serves as a school yard for the lower school.
