The name of the desert settlement on the southern edge of the Wiesengrund “Oberndorfergrund” probably came from a name “above the village of Bracht”. The assumption of an existing settlement is supported not only by finds of shards from the 11th to 14th centuries, but also by an entry in the Schönstädter Salbuch from 1592, in which a “Johann von Oberndorf” is listed as the owner of a clearing field. The reasons for the resettlement were probably the frequent plague epidemics in the years 1348 - 1352 and the rapid fall in grain prices that began in 1375.
