From the park-like Bechtelsberg Plateau, the view sweeps far over the Hessian low mountain range landscape, on a clear day to the north-west over the Lahnberge to the "Sackpfeife" in the Eder mountains, the "Kahler Asten" in the Sauerland, near the Westphalian town of Winterberg and to the "Hohen Lohr" in the North Hessian nature park Kellerwald; south to the peaks of the Rhön and Vogelsberg.

In the south of the Ziegenhain district, the Bechtelsberg rises up to a considerable height near Ottrau, an ancient decanatese seat of the Franconian Hessengau. Its summit affords an extraordinarily wide and beautiful view, and on its slope grow many medicinal herbs collected at Ascension, even from distant people. The summit of the Bechtelsberg is called the Rumpelskuppe, a name that may have to thank for the monstrous, thunder-like roar of its origins
