And in the valley, the brook Otter babbles. Splendid. The Otter is an approximately 5.6 km long, left-hand or southern tributary of the Grenff in the East Hessian highlands in the North Hessian Schwalm-Eder district. It is part of the river system and catchment area of the Weser.
The Otter begins in the Ottrauer Bergland, a part of the Fulda-Haune-Tafelland in the East Hessian Bergland, in the transition area to the Knüllgebirge. Its two source streams, which are around 500 m long, rise around 1.3 km south of Ottrau's core town of Ottrau at around 390 m altitude at the northern foot of the Bechtelsberg (472 m), around 300 m east of the L 3157 state road.
The creek flows from there in a generally northerly direction, past the Scheuersrode village and traverses Ottrau, where it picks up a small creek coming from the left and then the Pfaffenbach coming from the east (right). From Ottrau it continues north in several turns along the western flank of the Sebbel (383.5 m) and flows into the Grenff 0.7 km east of Kleinropperhausen about 150 m after crossing under the L 3158 state road at the Lenzenmühle at an altitude of about 297 m .

For me personally, these natural, narrow forest paths are, alongside the Sebbelsee, the highlight of the Fabelweg.
