The South Fork Big Pine Creek Trail is a challenging route that rewards with amazing views. The trail that goes beneath Palisade Glacier, is very steep and strenuous, and involves creek crossings and rock scrambling, but is totally worth the effort to get to Brainerd Lake. The bridge that crosses the South Fork was destroyed, making this a difficult creek to cross, but it can be done with care. It’s recommended to take trekking poles and hiking boots. The trail to Finger Lake is not marked on the map, but it is possible to make your own way there.
