You might find it easier to cross the South Fork Kings River a little bit north of the mapped location. There are some large rocks in the creek that make a crossing with dry feet relatively convenient. It is natural for the river to change a little. The valley here is quite open, offering great views of the surrounding Sierra mountain ranges on all sides. There are great camp spots nearby, some with comfortably soft grass, otherwise rare on this high and rocky section of the trail.
