The John Muir Trail follows the wide glacier-formed valley that drops gently north along the hard granite of the Palisades, filled by a sequence of lakes wherever the glacier carved out a deeper section. The trail here crosses a small tributary that flows into the creek, perfect for a fresh drinking water refill.
