Gooseman fountain, Weimar
The Gooseman fountain was modeled on the Entenmann in Nuremberg. Weimar's Gooseman with two geese under his arm and four swans under the upper fountain bowl directly opposite the Schiller House is one of the most popular fountains in Weimar.

Gooseman fountain, Weimar
At the bend of the curved Schillerstrasse, opposite Schiller's house, stands the Gooseman fountain, which was erected in 1864. It is a smaller copy of the most copied fountain in Germany, the Nuremberg Gooseman fountain, which was created around 1550.
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe was a great admirer of the fountain created by Prankraz Labenwolf. He visited the city of Nuremberg four times and spent a particularly long time looking around the Gooseman fountain on his last visit. In Nuremberg he bought several works of art, and he was particularly taken with the figure of the Gooseman. So Goethe asked the doctor and physicist Dr. Thomas Seebeck to send him a clay cast of the fountain figure. On July 5, 1814, Goethe thanked them with the words: "Serious thanks for the duck man, who has arrived safely." For Goethe, the figure embodied the art of the 16th century.
The Grand Duchess Maria Pavlovna received another cast of the figure in 1846. After her death in 1859, the citizens applied for a fountain to be built in her memory, and her bronze cast then served as a model for the fountain figure of the goose man.
The first fountain design from 1863 had to be dismantled because the fountain trough was too small and found its new location at the Reading Museum. The new goose man fountain was erected a year later based on a design by chief building director Friedrich Streichhan. In the middle of a round fountain basin made of travertine, a squat fountain column rises, around which four swans are grouped. The top of the column is a fountain top with a bowl, which is crowned by a bronze goose-man figure. It depicts a farmer in old German costume, carrying two geese under his arm. The fountain water runs from the beaks of the four swans and the two geese.
