San Lorenzo is a very small village which in the past played an important role during Garibaldi's landing in Melito Porto Salvo. The Garibaldini, after having attempted and failed to conquer the fort of Altafiumara, were chased by the Bourbons in Aspromonte, but thanks to the protection of the inhabitants of San Lorenzo they managed to hide and continue the liberation of Southern Italy.
