The crosses used to stand in the church. The cemetery was located around the church. When this was abandoned, a mass grave was discovered. It is assumed that it was the former plague cemetery. The crosses would then be "plague crosses".

Two atonement or plague crosses can be found near the Mönsheim St. Nicholas Church. Their exact location is not known. They were restored in 1975. The church used to be surrounded by a cemetery, in which a mass grave was found when the site was being redesigned. The plague victims were probably buried here - so the crosses could be plague crosses.

The right-hand cross is a cross with a paw. In the center is a six-spoke wheel with double ring contours. Above it, an upright axe pointing to the left can be seen faintly. The cross probably dates from the 15th century.

In the left cross, a pruning knife can be seen in the head, a shovel or ploughshare in the left arm and a staff or plough beam in the right arm. This cross is younger and probably dates from the first half of the 16th century.
