Caldeira Faial is a 6.8 kilometer long circular route with great viewpoints when the weather permits. There is also a path that leads down into the Caldeira, but access is restricted due to the nature reserve.
The crater was formed over the last 400,000 years, with numerous eruptions contributing to it, between which there were also long periods of inactivity. en The crater has a diameter of about 2 kilometers. The circular hike leads around the crater at an altitude of between 840 and 1040 meters above sea level.

At the Caldeira Circuit you always have a perfect view of Pico. Going for a walk in the morning, in the afternoon it is often cloudy.

You can see up to the small coastal communities and the neighboring islands Pico, Sao Jorge and Graciosa - unfortunately only in good weather. The panoramic path on the crater rim is worthwhile, however.
