The farm Meier zu Gütersloh, also called Meierhof Merklinghaus, Thesings Allee 1, together with the location of today's Apostle Church is considered the nucleus of the city Gütersloh. Already around the year 800 a homestead should have existed here. The present building (photo above) dates from about 1850. On the property, which can not be visited, is the only private cemetery Güterslohs. The ancestors of the Merklinghaus family rest there under tall trees.
