What makes the nature of the De Krim estate unique in the municipality is that it has never been developed. Other parts of the Peel have been restored to their former glory (such as the Klotterpeel), but thanks to its unspoilt nature, De Krim even still has a pingo. The area had various owners until 1920 and was only then set up as a small-scale agricultural business. There were three wooden houses on the central road from which a farm remains, but the vast majority have never been farmed. This vast majority consists of wet heathland and three fens and the aforementioned pingo, a remnant from the last ice age (the Weichselian).
