De Berg is the youngest parish in Meerhout. The church also looks very young. Following the example of the other parishes, a lot of greenery was provided around the church here. The contemporary St. Joseph's Church was built in 1968 according to plans by architects Lou Jansen and Rudi Schiltz.

The late honorary notary Emile Van Ermengem called the Berg the Montmartre of Meerhout. The nicest working-class neighborhood of the village with its many cafés produced renowned artists, such as Antoon and Zjef Van Uytsel, and that inspired him to make that statement. But the genteel Meerhout ignored the Berg. This only changed when the neighborhood committee created an independent parish in 1963.

The name Weversberg recalls the cottage industry in the 17th and 18th centuries. There was a loom in almost every house in the Berg. When wool was no longer profitable, flax was restored. That flax in turn disappeared from the landscape last century. The Berglanders became peddlers who traveled to all corners of the world with their goods. The peddling trade in buck herring in particular made the Bergvolk infamous far and wide.
