Strabatenza is an abandoned village on the Romagna side of the "National Park of the Casentinesi Forests, Monte Falterona and Campigna", located on a slope (680 meters above sea level) sloping towards the Bidente di Pietrapazza which forms a suggestive valley.

The first document dates back to 1213, when the church was subject to the Abbey of Sant'Ellero and paid a debt to it of one and a half pounds of wax.

According to the Descriptio Romandiolae, there were 3 hearths present in 1371, while the local fortification had already been destroyed.

From 1891 to 1896 there was a wine shop managed by Giovanni Bardi.

The church is dedicated to San Donato and was rebuilt after the 1918-19 earthquake.

What remains of the ancient village today are the church, the rectory, the church building and the cemetery: everything else was destroyed with dynamite by the Forestry Department in June 1970. Crushed stones were made from the rubble for the construction of the roads which they connect Poggio alla Lastra, Strabatenza, Pietrapazza and Nocicchio.

The toponym is very particular, the old forms vary from Strabatorenzi to Strabalenzoli. It therefore seems to be a compound noun of the verbal form "tear" combined with lenza/sheets or tenza/tent.
