The Nathebach is a 2.8 km long tributary of the Emscher. It rises in the south of the Dortmund district of Aplerbecker Mark and flows through the Nathebachtal before flowing into a dammed lake in the Osterbruch. After this point, the stream runs mostly underground, but passes through residential streets, an industrial area, a railway line and a school center. The Nathebach, which has good water quality, finally flows into the renatured Emscher near the market square in Aplerbeck. The ecosystem around the Nathebach is home to a variety of plants and animals, including European orchids, amphibians and songbirds.
