The Wacken Open Air (own spelling W: O: A) is a first time held in 1990 heavy metal festival, which takes place annually on the first weekend of August in the community Wacken in Schleswig-Holstein. Almost all varieties of Hard Rock and Metal are represented at the festival. [1] It is now one of the largest heavy metal festivals in the world and one of the largest open-air festivals in Germany. In the years 2011-2018, the number of participants was around 85,000 people, 75,000 of them paying visitors. In 2018, the festival took place from 2 to 4 August. In 2019, the festival is scheduled for the 1st to 3rd of August.
