Station 16 of the Biblical Wine Trail: On Maundy Thursday, shortly before his suffering and death, Jesus celebrated the Passover meal with his disciples. At this traditional festival, Jews commemorate the liberation of their ancestors from Egyptian slavery. The blood of a slaughtered lamb was smeared on the doorposts of the house that night so that the angel of death, who was to kill all firstborn males in Egypt, would recognize that a child of God lived there. Thus, the destroyer passed over the houses of the Hebrew slaves (in Hebrew: Passover).
