The Kursächsische Postsäulen are historic stone pillars built in the 1700s throughout Saxony to measure distances and mark postal routes. They were built by Saxony's ruler August the Strong in the style of the ancient Romans.
Here is a reproduction of a 1732 Halbmeilensäule (half-mile marker) along gthe Alten Dresden-Teplitzer Poststraße. It features various inscriptions: "AR," "to Dohna 3 1/2 miles," "to Dresden 2 miles," and a post horn symbol. It is dated "1732," with the side bearing the serial number 14, renewed in 1988. Last restored in 2012.
