The gatehouse is the entrance to the very beautiful and well-preserved complex, the former Benedictine monastery with the Preetz monastery church. Albrecht von Orlamünde founded the monastery in 1210 in honor of the Virgin Mary and John the Baptist. Today it is still managed as a women's monastery by the monastery board - provost and prioress.
