Tanners who processed animal hides into leather have lived here for centuries near the Kocher. They were dependent on running water for their processing. The half-timbered house was renovated in the 1970s and was awarded a monument protection prize for it. This gave impetus to the preservation of the old half-timbered houses in Schwaäbisch Hall, which were previously seen as "old junk" rather than "treasure chests".
