The church is located near the Itterbeek and is surrounded by a walled cemetery. Originally this was a quarta capella, of which the patronage rights and the largest part of the tithe rights were owned by the Abbey of Averbode, and a smaller part of the tithe rights were owned by a few private individuals and the Abbey of Herkenrode. It is a basilica in Gothic style. The nave was probably built in 1409, the choir around 1400. From 1864 to 1876 a neo-Gothic tower was built, designed by Léon Jaminé. The building is constructed of marlstone on a plinth of limestone blocks. The tower is made of brick with layers of marl stone. The interior of the church, like the outer walls, is made of marlstone. The church is 45 meters high. (Source: Wikipedia)
